The book features protagonist Long Leg, who is the protector of an earth elemental named Okaraxta. There is also a sci-fi subplot in which an alien named Eros who comes from a dark-matter civilization travels to Earth to determine whether humanity deserves to live or whether Earth should be harvested.

The strength of the book lies in its imagination and ambition. Furthermore, the prose has a very cinematic atmospheric feel to it.
