When The Night Owl Calls

When the Night Owl Calls by Bill J. Looney is a suspense thriller with supernatural elements that explores themes of good versus evil, faith, temptation, destiny, and human weakness. The book begins with a prologue set in 1642, when Isaac Jogues, a missionary, learns from the Mohawk people that an area of the wilderness is thought to harbor evil spirits. 

This sets the tone for the book as we're introduced to Detective Cooper Hamilton in 2019. He becomes involved in the mysterious death of elderly artist De Lay Pelletier, who is discovered frozen to death outside his isolated cabin. The circumstances immediately seem strange, as De Lay appears to have anticipated his death and leaves behind writings, mysterious symbols, a talisman, and instructions directing investigators to Dr. Okwaho Auclair of St. Lawrence University.

As Cooper investigates with Trooper Jill Richardson, he discovers that De Lay's death is actually part of something far more ancient than an ordinary crime. Looney captivates his readers and warns us that although evil may be contained by one generation, the responsibility to guard against it passes from one generation to the next. When the Night Owl Calls is an exceptional, ambitious novel sure to delight its readers as they eagerly turn page after page.
